Rocket hits empty house in Baghdad’s Green Zone
A Katyusha rocket hit an empty house near the US Embassy in Baghdad’s Green Zone on Monday, triggering embassy alarm sirens. Launched from the eastern district of the capital, it was the first rocket attack since Mustafa al-Kadheimi took over as prime minister earlier this month. Pro-Iranian militias have repeatedly fired rockets at US military bases and the embassy compound, albeit never owning up to the attacks any more than they did the latest one. The US has scheduled talks with the new prime minister in June to reset the US military presence in Iraq in the face of Tehran’s objections.
