Several rockets early Sunday struck Baghdad’s Green Zone diplomatic zone that houses the US embassy. On Saturday, a senior US official announced the resumption of joint US-led coalition-Iraqi army collaboration for the first time since the US assassinated Iran’s general Qassem Soleimani on Jan. 3. A coalition statement confirmed that the rocket attack “impacted” the Iraqi military installation housing US forces in the Green Zone next door to the US embassy. Witnesses reported strong explosions. There were no reports of casualties. There were also witness reports of smoke rising from HQ of the pro-Iranian PMF militia east of Baghdad after the rockets were fired into the Green Zone.
