Russia confirms launch of first air strikes in Syria

The Russian Defense Ministry said that the first Russian air attacks in Syria were directed Wednesday at Islamic State military targets. They appeared to be aiming for the Homs area, but did not include areas held by ISIS, an American official said. Moscow gave Washington just an hour’s notice of the strikes.
