Russia convenes Astana conference on Syria during Putin-Trump summit

Sources in Moscow report that Russian, Turkish and Iranian delegates will hold a session of the Astana conference for a Syrian political resolution on Nov. 28-29. Those are the exact dates of the G-20 summit in Buenos Aires, on the sidelines of which Presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin have arranged to sit down and talk. Syria’s future is high on their agenda, and so calling the Astana conference at the same time indicates that Putin does not mean to be swayed from his present path in the Syrian conflict.
