Russia reaffirms support for Assad regime in aftermath of chemical attack

Responding to a question on whether Tuesday's deadly chemical attack will affect his country's policy in Syria, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Wednesday that Moscow will continue to support the Syrian military's "anti-terrorism operation". He repeated the claim by the Russian Defense Ministry earlier in the day that the incident was the result of the Syrian air force bombing a rebel facility where bombs including chemical weapons were being produced. About 150 people were killed and hundreds of others were wounded in the Syrian military's bombardment of the town of Khan Sheikhun in northwestern Syria.
