Russia vetoes Security Council resolution condemning Syria
Russia used its veto power at the UN Security Council to block the passage of a resolution condemning Syria over its use of chemical weapons. The draft submitted by the US, Britain and France calls for an immediate international investigation of Syria's April 4 chemical attack on a town in Idlib province. British Foreign Minister Boris Johnson said the veto put Russia "on the wrong side of the argument". Russia's move came late Wednesday night, several hours after US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said during a joint press conference in Moscow with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov that ties between Washington and Moscow are at a "low point".
