Russian air strike kills radical Syrian rebel chief

Zahran Alloush, head of the most powerful Syrian rebel group Jaysh al-Islam, was killed Friday by a Russian air strike in eastern Damascus. The Russians acted on an intelligence tip-off on a meeting of the radical group’s chiefs in the Marj al-Sultan suburb.
Under a UN-brokered ceasefire taking shape between the Syrian army and the Islamic State, between 2,000 and 3,000 jihadists may be bussed over the weekend out of their positions in and around the Palestinian Yarmouk refugee camp of northern Damascus to their headquarters in Raqqa. Negotiations are still ongoing.
The Syrian army held the camp to siege from the time it was seized by ISIS in April, but never managed to break through to the interior.
