Russian defense minister arrives in Damascus

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu arrived in Damascus Tuesday and went directly into a meeting with Syrian President Bashar Assad. Russian news agencies said he had come to discuss the war in Syria on the orders of Russian President Vladimir Putin. He and Assad discussed military cooperation between Russia and Syria, as well as the countries’ joint efforts to defeat Islamic State in Syria.
