Russian expert: New electronic warfare system in Syria can track planes in Israel
The electronic warfare system Russia has just installed in Syria reinforces the aviation component’s jammers with ground-based systems, said Vladimir Mikheyev, an adviser to Russian Concern Radio-Electronic Technologies. Electronic warfare and air defense systems will also reinforce the Russian naval taskforce, he said. Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu promised to boost EW systems in Syria after the downing of a Russian II-20 spy plane on Sept. 17. The new systems can track planes still on the ground in Israel and in Europe.
