Saudi crackdown on princes and tycoons netted about $106.7bn

The kingdom’s attorney general Sheikh Saudi al-Mojeb reported Wednesday that the November anti-corruption drive had generated an estimated $106.7bn and that 56 of the 381 detainees remained in custody. The others were either cleared or admitted guilt and handed over property, cash, securities and other assets. Among those released from the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Riyadh are the billionaire investor Prince Alwaleed bin Talal and Alwalid al-Ibrahim, owner of the Arab satellite television network MBC. There is no information on how much they handed over.  Prince Miteb bin Abdullah, son of the former king, is known to have handed over $1bn for his freedom.
