Saudi Prince ends US tour with arms deals, Hollywood “summit”
The Trump administration okayed more than $2.3bn in arms sale to Saudi Arabia including more than $1bn in missiles. As Prince Mohamed bin Salman prepared to end his two-week US tour, the White House Thursday approved the $1.3bn sale of 180 Paladin howitzer systems, artillery-firing vehicles on tracks.
The prince was given a royal welcome by Hollywood, where his plan to open cinemas across the kingdom had top industry executives jockeying for deals. After his retinue took over a complete hotel, he held a summit on the future of entertainment in Said Arabia. The biggest American movie chain AMC plans to open 30 cinemas in the oil kingdom with others scrambling to follow. A lone protester carried a sign warning in reference to Yemen, “Bin Salman is no Prince Charming.”
