Saudis: Iran is not in charge of Yemen

Dismissing Tehran’s call for a Yemen ceasefire, Saudi Foreign Minister Saud al Faisal asked Sunday, “How can Iran call for us to stop the fighting in Yemen… when we came to help the legitimate authority?” Addressing a news conference in Riyadh with his French college Lauren Fabius, the Saudi minister stressed: “Iran is not in charge of Yemen.” DEBKAfile: One of the strongest statements coming out of Riyadh since Saudi Arabia launched its intervention two weeks ago highlighted the rising competition between the Sunni oil kingdom and the Shiite Islamic republic over the lead role in the region.
