Saudis order 121 Boeing-787 jets to pacify US over détente with China

Two Saudi airlines this week signed contracts worth $35bn for the purchase of 121 Dreamlliner-787pasenger jets from Boeing, providing hundreds of thousands of new jobs for the US company. Observers in Washington conclude that the purchase represented an effort by Saudi Crown Prince Muhamed bin Salman to keep Riyad’s relations with the Biden administration on an even keel after the détente with Beijing which brokered the Saudi-Iranian reconciliation.
