Iran’s health ministry reported on Tuesday two daily 50pc jumps in a row of confirmed cases of coronavirus, raising the total to 2,336, most in Tehran and Qom, and 77 deaths. Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei denied allegations that the authorities were hiding the real figures. The latest fatality was Parhosine Koliband, an intelligence official. Top officials have contracted the virus, including a senior adviser to Khamenei and 23 lawmakers. Covid-19 cases traced to Iran are reported in Afghanistan, Canada, Lebanon, Pakistan, Kuwait, Bahrain, Iraq, Oman, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.
