Local councils are organized to meet the needs of a population of more than a million people under constant missile attack. More than 700 buildings suffered damage. Social workers are visiting victims.  Many have accepted invitations to take a break in the North. Schoolchildren are provided with study packages on their computers. Volunteers are helping out. Because the Palestinians are shooting Grads at the upper floors and roofs of high-rise buildings in the targeted towns like Ashdod and Ashkelon, residents are advised to take shelter in lower floors or a building’s stairway. In Ashkelon, people from upper floors of one of the three buildings that took direct hits Sunday morning were saved by evacuating their apartments and sheltering in the stairwell. Two were slightly hurt by falling shrapnel.
