Senior Treasury official quits over government’s economic policies
The Treasury\s Budget Dept. Director Shaul Meridor resigned on Sunday in protest against the government’s handling of the economic crisis sparked by the coronavirus outbreak. The country will pay a heavy price for this in the coming years, he said, complaining of unprofessional decision-making processes amid a “blatant contempt for staff work” and the data. Meridor earlier criticized the prime minister’s decision to distribute checks to individuals and families to bridge hardships.
Finance Minister Yisrael Katz fired back, accusing Meridor of being moved by “narrow political interests.” He was therefore making the right move.
