Seoul closely watches North Korean military reshuffle

North Korean ruler Kim Jong un took top military rank of marshal days after sacking the army chief from all his posts. It was approved by leading government and military bodies, according to the official news agency communique. The ruler is already supreme commander of North Korea’s armed forces. The new appointment consolidates his grip on the armed forces. South Korean President Lee Myung Bak held a special national security meeting Tuesday to consider military developments in Pyongyang.
