A serious accident occurred on Thursday during IDF armored corps training on the Golan when one tank, for reasons that remain unclear, fired at another tank from the same battalion. The shell caused exterior damage but did not penetrate the tank's armor, and none of the crew were injured. The shell was a type with a small amount of explosive material that is only used in training. Following the accident, the commander of the armored corps, Brig. Gen. Shmulik Olansky, ordered the halting of all exercises by the corps until the circumstances of the incident are determined.
