Seven US sailors missing from their warship’s collision with Japanese vessel
Seven US sailors are missing from the guided-missile destroyer USS Fitzgerald and its commander, Cmdr Bryce Benson and two other seamen, injured, after a collision with a Japanese merchant ship off the coast of Japan. The US Navy said Friday that the Fitzgerald sustained damage to its starboard side above and below the waterline in the incident. The two ships collided Friday night in the Pacific Ocean about 56 nautical miles from the port of Yokosuka and 12 miles off the Izu Peninsula, the Japanese coast guard said.
