Shin Beit uncovers Palestinian hired by Iran for terror and espionage

Israel’s domestic security Shin Bet service has uncovered an Iranian intelligence operation for enlisting a Palestinian agent in the Hebron area, it was revealed on Wednesday. Following a Shin Bet investigation, in conjunction with the Israeli military, Mohammed Maharmeh a Palestinian computer engineering student, aged 29, has been arrested. He was recruited n 2015 through a relative, Bahar Maharmeh, who lives in South Africa. That country, the Shin Bet has found, serves as an Iranian intelligence recruiting ground for clandestine agents to be planted in Israel and Palestinian areas.  Maharmeh’s task was to promote terrorist operations against Israeli targets, enlist a suicide bomber and gunmen for the purpose, hire an Israeli Arab for photographing targets inside Israel, and send Israeli sim cards to Iran for the use of its spies. The accused had hired two operatives in Hebron for setting up a terrorist cell. Both agreed to serve the Islamic regime in Tehran and were paid $8,000 each.

    From the article:

“He was recruited n 2015 through a relative, Bahar Maharmeh, who lives in South Africa. That country, the Shin Bet has found, serves as an Iranian intelligence recruiting ground for clandestine agents to be planted in Israel and Palestinian areas.”

Is it a coincidence that the govt. of South Africa wants to down grade their diplomatic presence in Israel?
Could the above quote be the reason why?
