Sniper fire on UN inspectors convoy in Damascus

The UN says multiple shots were fired Monday by unidentified snipers, damaging one of the six cars of the convoy carrying UN inspectors to Eastern Ghouta outside Damascus, the site of a chemical weapons attack last Wednesday that killed hundreds of Syrians. A spokesman for UN Secretary Ban Ki-moon said the vehicle was forced to return to a government checkpoint after being deliberately targeted. The inspectors went ahead to the destination after replacing the damaged vehicle. Dressed in blue UN body armor, they were accompanied on their mission to find evidence of a poison gas attack by security forces and an ambulance.
