South African judge prevents Sudanese President’s exit

A South African judge on Sunday ordered authorities to prevent Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir, who was in South Africa for an African Union summit, from leaving the country because of an international order for his arrest. The ICC has charged Bashir on 10 counts including genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity in suppressing the Darfur uprising in 2003. The US joined calls for Bashir’s arrest in South Africa. A spokesman for President Bashir said that he is still in Johannesburg but will be leaving South Africa later Monday.
