Sudanese defense minister announces military takeover, Bashir’s arrest
Sudanese defense minister Mohammed ibn Ouf announced Thursday that the military has arrested President Omar Bashin, ending his 30 years in power, and taken control of the country. After two years of transitional government “free and fair elections” will take place, he said. Meanwhile, a three-month state of emergency was imposed, together with a night curfew and the closure of the country’s borders and air space. Political prisoners will be released. After months of protests, activists are rejecting the military takeover and saying on social media the “Revolution goes on.”
