Sultan Qaboos of Oman is dying

Oman’s Sultan Qaboo, 74, returned home Monday after eight months of medical treatment at a German hospital, which the doctors described as completely successful. DEBKAfile’s intelligence sources report that he came home to die, after the cancer from which he is suffering did not respond to treatment. Qaboos has ruled Oman for 55 years. He told his close advisers to try and agree on the name of his successor, but if they failed, he would leave them a letter naming the next ruler of his choice.
