Syrian state media reported that Israeli jets had fired missiles from Lebanese air space at the Al Qutaiba base east of Damascus before dawn Tuesday, repeating an earlier report by Syrian rebels. The Syrian army statement carried by state media further claimed that Syrian air defenses had hit one of the Israeli planes, and that Israel then fired two ground-to-ground rockets from the Golan, but Syrian defenses intercepted them. The statement also referred to a “final barrage of four rockets from Tiberias, inside Israel,” one of which the Syrians said they struck, causing material damage to “property near one of our military posts.”
Earlier reports from rebel and opposition groups on social media described the target of the Israel air strike as arms depots. No comment was available from Israel.
