Syria claims Israel conducted airstrikes near Homs and Tartus
Alleged Israel air strikes in central Syria near Homs and the coastal town of Tartus injured two Syrian soldiers Monday night, according to Damascus media. Foreign sources add that Israel’s missiles were aimed at a missile production plant set up by Iran near Homs. Syria claims that Israeli jets launched their attacks from Lebanon north of Beirut and its air defenses managed to intercept most of them. DEBKAfile’s military sources note that Israel’s many purported air strikes against Iranian targets rarely reach Tartus in view of the Russian naval and air bases located in the vicinity. This attack was the seventh to be attributed to Israel in the past month.
