Syria posts “initial declaration” of its chemical arms
The Hague-based Organization for the Prevention of Chemical Weapons-OPCW reported Friday that Syria had submitted an “initial declaration” of its chemical arms, short of the full inventory scheduled to be handed in by Sept. 21 under the Kerry-Putin deal. OPCW sources say the document contains no new information that was not known already, but is a hopeful sign of Syrian cooperation. In expectation of a fuller list in the coming days, the OPCW has postponed a meeting planned for Sunday.
