Syria says Israeli missiles struck Latakia port
Syria’s military says Israeli fighter jets fired missiles on the Syrian port of Latakia after midnight Tuesday, damaging containers but causing no casualties. According to Syrian state TV, five explosions were heard at the port starting a huge fire in the container area. Fire engines rushed to the scene had extinguished the blaze. “Our air defenses repelled the Israeli aggression in Latakia,” said the Damascus broadcast.
The London-based Syrian opposition adds that the attack targeted an arms delivery for pro-Iranian militias and took the form of missiles fired from the sea to the west.
The last attack attributed to Israel occurred on Nov. 24 when an air strike allegedly went into action over the Homs region in central Syria.
