Syrian FM: Syria’s entire chemical arsenal was destroyed

Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem claimed Thursday that “Syria has no chemical weapons, as they were destroyed when the country joined the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.” In an interview with International Life magazine, the Syrian minister added, “The US fleet took away all of Syria’s chemical substances and weapons, which were liquidated in the Mediterranean Sea.”

Muallem was replying to US and allied statements that they would respond to a Syrian government chemical attack. Moscow has charged that “militants” were preparing a “false flag chemical attack” in Idlib to give the US a pretext for attacking Syria.
