Syrian military repels assault near Quneitra; Rebel commander killed

Reports from the Syrian Golan on Thursday said that the country's military had repelled a rebel attack on the outskirts of the town of Al-Baath next to Quneitra. The rebels reportedly suffered heavy casualties including their commander, Abu Osamah Al-Karar, who was killed. The fighting near Al-Baath, located less than three kilometers from the Israeli border, was the source of the mortar rounds that landed in Israeli territory on the Golan Heights during the past few days.
