Syrian rebel chief in Aleppo quits after Assad’s Al Safira win

Gen. Abdel Jabbar al-Okaidi, head of Syrian rebel forces in the Aleppo region angrily threw in the towel Sunday saying: “This is no way to fight!” DEBKAfile’s military sources say he was reacting to the failure of any foreign backers, Saudi Arabia, Turkeu or Qatar, to help the rebels fend off the Syrian army’s assault around the big army base at Al Safira near Aleppo. By Sunday, Assad’s army had retaken all parts of the region and cleansed it of rebel presence. Syria’s largest chemical store is located in that base.
