Syrian rebels begin evacuating Homs Old City
Syrian opposition fighters were allowed to withdraw from the besieged parts of Homs Wednesday under a deal with the government brokered by the UN and Iran. They held on to their last major stronghold for two years despite the Syrian army’s ultimatum: starve or surrender. Humanitarian aid can now reach the population for the first time. Earlier this year, about 1,400 people were evacuated from the Old City of Homs.
