Syrian rebels drive ISIS back from its new southern positions
DEBKAfile’s military sources report that Syrian rebel forces, with US and Jordanian military backing, managed to dislodge the ISIS-linked Yarmouk Brigades from the southern Syrian town of Nawa and surrounding villages,which the Islamic State had just captured in an offensive led by ISIS commanders from Raqqa. The Islamists were pushed back to their former positions in a small enclave near the meeting point of the Syrian, Jordanian and Israeli borders. The US and Jordan armed the rebel forces for the operation with heavy equipment and intelligence .
