Syrian rebels holding Quneitra surrender to Syrian army

The Syrian rebels holding Quneitra opposite Israel’s Golan border surrendered without a fight to the Syrian army on Thursday. Their resistance crumbled when they saw that no support would be forthcoming from Israel in light of the deal struck by Presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin in Helsinki. Under the terms of surrender these anti-Assad groups signed with Syrian officers, they agreed to stop fighting and hand over their strongholds, including the town of Quneitra, to the Syrian army. Rebels opposed to the accord would be evacuated with their families to the northern province of Idlib.
