Taliban bombs Afghan parliament as politicians meet inside
Four big explosions shook the Afghan parliament in Kabul Monday followed by gunfire from battle with security forces Interior Ministry spokesman Sediq Sediqqi said there was one explosion.The Taliban in a statement said they had carried out a suicide bombing. Gunmen then attacked the building. It was unclear if the other explosions were caused by bombs or grenades. The attack occurred as the Afghan president Ashraf Ghani was about to introduce his nominee for the crucial post of defense minister. Lawmakers ran for cover from the smoke-filled building. Officials could not immediately confirm whether Taliban fighters had breached the high-security parliament building and there were no immediate reports on casualties.
