Taxi injures 8 soccer fans near Moscow’s Red Square
Eight soccer fans attending the World Cup finals in Russia were injured Saturday night by a taxi that mounted the crowded pavement near Moscow’s Red Square. They included three Mexicans wearing national colors. Ambulances took them to hospital where none were said to be gravely hurt. Moscow police detained the driver as he fled the scene saying it was an accident. He was identified as a Kyrgyzstan national. Amid fears of a terrorist attack, tens of thousands of Russian police are deployed to World Cup cities, along with national guardsmen and mounted Cossacks, with air defense missiles and drone-jamming devices for protecting the stadiums. They are all jam-packed with audiences far greater than expected.
