TeamViewer servers under cyber-attack. Millions at immediate risk
There is concern that TeamViewer servers were hacked during a cyber-attack. TeamViewer is a remote desktop connection software that provides its world-wide users the ability to access computers remotely and share screens. This enables users to work in collaboration or to fix software malfunctions in home or work computers. If the hackers managed to get access to the encryption keys out of the company’s servers, then they have the ability to gain access to each of the millions of users’ computers and do what they please, including reading their emails, copy or corrupt files, transfer money from bank accounts and even plant a ransomware program. Ransomware is a virus installed on a computer, which encrypts all files, rendering them useless until unlocked by the hacker. TeamViewer says that service disruptions experienced by the users are caused by a denial-of-service attack and that the company’s experts are working on returning the service to normal.
