Tehran will ‘react’ if US extends sanctions, Iran’s leader says
The supreme leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said Wednesday that his country will retaliate if the US extends its Iran Sanctions Act, which is scheduled to expire at the end of 2016. Khamenei made the statement in Tehran at a meeting of volunteers from the Basij paramilitary force. He also alleged that the U.S. government has breached the nuclear deal with Iran on "many occasions". The US House of Representatives last week approved an extension of the sanctions act by ten years, but the legislation needs to be approved by the Senate, and then signed into law by President Obama, in order to go into effect.
