Tentative Yemen peace talks begin in Sweden

The belligerents in the Yemen war are meeting at a Swedish castle for the first time in two years  for a first tentative step towards ending a war that has brought their nation to the edge of famine. They were brought together by UN Special Envoy Martin Griffiths who laid the ground for the meeting by negotiating a confidence-building swap of thousands of prisoners between Yemen government forces and the Houthi insurgents. The immediate objective of the week-long conference is re-open rebel-held Hudaydah port, Yemen’s lifeline.
