Thaw in Egyptian-Syrian relations for anti-terror cooperation

Egyptian sources revealed Monday that Syrian National Security Bureau chief Gen. Ali Mamluk had traveled secretly to Cairo for talks with the Egyptian intelligence director Gen. Abbas Kamal. They discussed the situation in the region and cooperation in the war on terror. DEBKAfile adds: Gen. Kamal arranged a trip to Cairo last week by Sudan’s President Omar Bashir. This Egyptian general is also the live wire in the indirect contacts between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.
