The EU and US discuss Ukraine sanctions

The US and EU are discussing sanctions against Ukraine, Secretary of State John Kerry said Wednesday after the worst violence in months of protest claimed at least 26 lives overnight Tuesday. German, Polish and French foreign ministers are due in Kiev Thursday to meet with the opposing sides and report to the extraordinary EU foreign ministers session discussing sanctions later than day. Washington said the Ukraine police must pull back and a truce negotiated. Moscow has held up the transfer of $2 bn in economic aid to the Yanukovych government. Wednesday, there were more clashes as police renewed attempts to dislodge protesters from their main camp in Kiev Independence Square.
