The Palestinians in two minds about filing Sec Council motion

The Palestinian motion calling for Israel’s 1967 “occupation” to be limited to two years, to make way for a Palestinian state, may or may not be filed at the UN Security Council Wednesday as PA chairman Mahmoud Abbas had planned. DEBKAfile reports that the motion is not assured of the mandatory support of nine members (out of 15) before it is tabled.

Senior Palestinian officials reported Wednesday that their conversation with US Secretary of State John Kerry the day before was tough-going and ended in a warning that the motion would be defeated by a US veto.  After Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu met Kerry Monday in Rome Monday, he did not confirm or deny that he had obtained the promise of a US veto.
