The US blocks former Palestinian PM from UN mission
The US ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley Friday blocked the appointment of former Palestinian prime minister Salam Fayyad to head of the United Nations political mission in Libya. His name was put forward by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterrers in a letter to the UN Security Council. Haley released a statement saying, “For too long the UN has been unfairly biased in favor of the Palestinian Authority to the detriment of our allies in Israel. Going forward, the United States will act, not just talk, in support of our allies.”
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu is due to visit Washington next Wednesday the same day the UN holds its monthly meeting on Middle East issues.
