The US will not defend Israel at UN human rights forum

The United States will not take the floor at the main U.N. human rights forum on Monday during the annual debate on violations committed in the Palestinian territories. Washington has unfailingly defended Israel in the regular, disproportionate assaults on its human rights record, but is abstaining this time to signal the Obama administration’s "reassessment" of relations with Israel.

Senator John McCain commented Sunday that the president should "get over his temper tantrum” against prime minister Netanyahu and start working with “our Israeli friends" to try and stem "this tide of ISIS and Iranian movement which is threatening the very fabric of the region…Bibi's rhetoric [on a Palestinian state] during an election campaign pales in comparison as to the direct threat to the United States of America concerning ISIS."
