Thousands evacuated from Aleppo day after buses burned
Dozens of buses safely departed the last rebel held district of east Aleppo Monday, a day after six buses were attacked and burned to stall their exit. The evacuations resumed after rebels lifted the siege of the two Shiite villages Fouaa and Kefraya, allowing 10 buses with evacuees to pass through rebel-held territory towards Aleppo. A linked evacuation of government-held parts of Idlib province besieged by rebels also started early on Monday.
While civilians are being moved to safety in Syria, the UN Security Council agreed after an all-night debate on a resolution for posting monitors to oversee the mass evacuations.
