Three IDF fighters honored for courage in anti-terror operations
Awards for outstanding bravery and enterprise in combat against terrorists were handed out Wednesday to three members of IDF combat units: Nahal Brigade soldier, the late 1st Sgt Yanai Weissman, who though unarmed and on leave, grappled with two terrorists at Binyamin Gate near Ramallah. The certificate was handed to his widow, Yael Weissman.
Sgt. Lihi Malka, a female member of the Home Command and Sgt, Mattan Shamir of the Givati Brigade, were decorated for enterprise, resolve and professional combat in defending their units under attack. Malka killed a Palestinian terrorist who attacked her partner in the Binyamin district; Shamir fought off a knife attack outside Nablus after he was injured himself.
Three units operating in Judea and Samaria received special commendations for excellence: the Nitzan Brigade, the Netzah Yehuda Haredi Brigade and the Givati Brigade’s Tzabar Battalion.
The awards were handed out by Maj. Gen. Ronnie Noma, OC Central Command, and Brig. Gen. Lior Carmeli, Judea and Samaria Commander, at a ceremony at Ammunition Hill, Jerusalem.
