Three Palestinians attack Israeli border guards, badly injure two

Three Palestinian terrorists armed with knives, a rifle and explosive devices attacked a border guard unit on duty Wednesday at Damascus Gate in Jerusalem. As one of the terrorists offered his ID on request, a second pulled his gun and started shooting, seriously injuring two female officers.  One is in critical condition. The rest of the unit returned the fire and killed all three Palestinian assailants. 

DEBKAfile:  This attack further ramped up the level of Palestinian terror, following the murder of Shlomit Krugman at Beit Horon on Jan. 25 by knifemen, who planned to detonate pipe bombs for the first time. The war against this spiraling terror campaign is seriously retarded by the official misapprehension that it is waged by lone terrorists rather than an organization. That organization's masterminds are taking full advantage of the restraints placed on the military and security services which are charged with combating terrorism.
