Tillerson to fly back to Qatar following talks with Saudi-led bloc
Continuing his shuttle diplomacy aimed at resolving the crisis over Qatar's support of terrorism, US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson flew to Kuwait on Wednesday after a meeting with his counterparts from the UAE, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Egypt. There were no reports of progress in the talks. A State Department spokesman said Tillerson will travel to Qatar on Thursday to brief the emir on the previous day's talks in the Saudi Arabian city of Jeddah.
The Saudi-led bloc of four countries said Tuesday that the deal signed earlier in the day by the US and Qatar on combating the financing of terrorism was not enough for them to lift the sanctions they imposed on June 5. In a joint statement, the bloc vowed to "closely watch how serious the Qatari authorities are in their fight against all forms of funding, supporting and embracing terrorism."
