Trump declares national emergency as coronavirus spreads

After weeks of criticism, President Donald Trump Friday declared a national emergency for dealing with the spread of coronavirus in the United States. He said it would free up $50bn for states and allow the federal government to cut through regulations and laws to extend fast care to coronavirus patients. He also outlined agreements with private companies to provide quick tests for the virus. Trump said he expected 1.4 million additional tests to be available next week and five million within a month.
After days of steep falls, Wall Street rebounded Friday after Trump’s announcement.
