Trump faces Miami federal court on classified documents charges
US ex-president Donald Trump faces a 37-count criminal indictment in Miami federal court on Tuesday after more than 100 classified documents were found at his private Florida resort of Mar-a-Lago. He is accused of illegally retaining the documents after his presidency and engaging in a conspiracy to obstruct the government’s attempts to retrieve them. The documents allegedly contained information about the defense and weapons capabilities of both the US and foreign countries, and plans for possible retaliation in response to a foreign attack.
Trump accuses the Biden administration of “weaponizing enforcement agencies” for a witch hunt against him. He vows to continue his run for a second presidential term in 2024 even if he is given a jail sentence. Miami police are preparing for mass demos at the court after Trump called on sympathizers to rally round in his support.
